Dear Fellow Members of the Massachusetts Police Association,

It is an honor and privilege to serve you as the 77th President of the Massachusetts Police Association.
Since the inception of this Association over 100 years ago, the goal has been to represent the fine men and women who serve as law enforcement officers throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Like the many dedicated Presidents who served before me, I pledge to work with the Executive Board to better the training, compensation and working conditions of all of our members throughout the Commonwealth.

We all recognize that we are living in very difficult economic times which have taken a toll on our personal incomes and the budgets of the communities we serve. My mission throughout the year will be to make sure that essential programs in support of our members are kept in place and that past benefits are restored.

Well trained and educated officers are strong assets for our communities and the people we serve. Programs such as the Quinn bill need to restored to ensure that we continue the training and professional development needed to allow us to continue to better service our citizens.

Fair and competitive wages allow our members to contribute to the economic growth of our cities and towns. Reinstatement of evergreen clauses within our contracts must occur to ensure that the limited economic growth we are starting to see continues.

Support of the families of our members is also a priority of the Association. As the cost of higher education escalates we must continue to provide scholarships to deserving sons and daughters of police officers. It is also imperative that we show support to families of officers who have been killed in the line of duty so I will support participation at the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C.

There is much to do and the economic climate is not always favorable to support our needs, but I commit to each of you that I will work tirelessly on your behalf. Along with the Executive Board we will work to restore abandoned programs, to keep and grow wages and benefits and to increase the professional standing of all of our members.

I look for your support and wish each of you and your families a prosperous and healthy year ahead.

Sincerely,

Kevin Burnham
President
Massachusetts Police Association
